Cool Tools: What You Should Look For In A PDA By Kai Isaacs It can be overwhelming shopping for a Personal Digital Assistant. The features and options available vary greatly depending on the manufacture and model. Specifications to consider when searching for the best PDA are the operating system, Versimail, processor, input type, battery and expansion software. If you’re not exactly sure what you want or what you need to ensure that you find the right PDA to support your needs, the chart below will give you a comparison of the more popular PDA’s available today. After owning their first PDA for a few months, or even a few days, many users find that they have hit a wall with the amount of information that they can store. Keep in mind that you will have the ability to purchase additional space for your PDA. If at all possible, try to find one that gives you at least 60 MB. The display is more a matter of convenience than functionality; however, it is important considering it will be used for every operation. If you plan to use it primarily to browse the internet, you will want one with a fairly high resolution and landscape option, as opposed to someone who will mainly use a PDA for its contact and calendar functions. Last but not least, the size. The size of your PDA is usually a sign of future upgradeability. For that reason, some of the larger PDA’s have their advantages, but the features offered will play a large role in your selection. Most PDA’s will use one of two programs when connecting and synchronizing with a desktop computer. One program is called ActiveSync which is primarily used by PDA’s that have a Pocket PC operating system. The other is the Palm Desktop Manager which is used by PDA’s that have the Palm OS operating system.
